Sustainability
& Community Commitments

Operating in the world's most biodiverse marine environment requires a measurable commitment to its protection. We don't treat sustainability as marketing — it's an operational discipline.
Our environmental and community commitments are not aspirations — they are documented practices. Below: specific operational standards we maintain, the measurable impact we track, and the partners that hold us accountable.

Operational Commitments

No-anchor policy

Mooring lines only. Anchoring is prohibited on all reef areas — even rubble. Crew enforce strictly.

Reef-safe sunscreen only

Oxybenzone-free mandatory for all guests + crew. We provide replacement sunscreen if needed.

Plastic reduction

Single-use plastic banned onboard. Guests receive aluminum bottles. Galley uses bulk supplies.

No-touch enforcement

Guides intervene on first sign of touching. Three warnings = removal from next dive. Strict.

Waste management

All waste returned to Sorong for proper disposal. Greywater treated, blackwater pumped at port.

Low-emission propulsion

Hybrid engines on newer phinisi. Sailing under canvas when wind permits. Fuel logs published annually.

How We're Held Accountable

Annual sustainability audit: Conducted by Coral Triangle Center each November. Public report available on request.Conservation contributions tracking: Per-guest contributions itemized on every invoice and aggregated quarterly. Misool Foundation publishes our donor receipts.Carbon offset partnership: Working with Indonesian reforestation program (one-million-trees-Sulawesi initiative). Carbon footprint per voyage calculated + offset.Community feedback: Quarterly review with village heads in 12 partner communities. Their concerns reshape our operational standards.
